Early Outreach Medical School Preparation Programs Need Your Support as Congress Slashes Grant Funding by 96 million and Calls for Complete Elimination of Program Funding.

Less than 1% of youth in America who have aspirations to become a medical doctor, have access to early outreach medical school preparation programs that will nurture their interest in medicine and provide the knowledge, resources and mindsets needed to navigate the path to medical school.

Join us to call upon [President Biden and the White House Administration] to help increase funding for the Early Outreach Medical School Grant Program (EOMSG).

Grant funding will support medical school pipeline programs across the nation that are designed to expand access to medical school education for a diverse group of talented youths, as early as the 4th grade, including students traditionally underrepresented in medicine, and those that come from families with limited financial resources.

Why Should We Increase Funding For Early Outreach - Medical School Preparation Programs?

  • To provide students underrepresented in medicine with the skills needed to become competitive applicants for medical school.
  • Students from diverse communities across the nation will be prepared with the academic, mental, and social-emotional skills to complete the pre-medical pathway, and to enter and thrive in medical school and beyond.
  • To help students overcome the barriers that exist on the path to becoming a medical physician. These include:
    • Financial cost of medical school education
    • Lack of academic preparation and advising support
    • Admissions requirements
    • Stereotype threat
    • Imposter syndrome
    • Limited exposure to careers in medicine
    • Lack of mentors concordant with a student’s race/ethnicity
