How is the MPP program structured and delivered?

MPP Academic Year Program (AYP) is a year-round, early outreach pre-med & medical school readiness program that uses a Hyflex learning model that combines online (via Zoom) and face-to-face class sessions on a university campus to achieve student instructional objectives.

HYFLEX LEARNING MODEL

DELIVERED 95% ONLINE | 5% ON-CAMPUS

What is Hyflex Learning? HyFlex learning makes class meetings and materials available so that students can access them online or in-person, during or after class sessions. All students, regardless of the path taken, will achieve the same learning objectives.

In MPP Academy’s Hyflex program, students will participate in the following:

Convenient Weekend Courses

Live Face-to-Face Virtual Class Sessions on Saturdays via Zoom for 90 minutes that are taught by world-class faculty, practicing physicians, medical school/university professors, and a diverse group of health care professionals (Medical Doctors, Nurses, Physician Assistants, EMTs/Paramedics) to help MPP students prepare for a future career in medicine and healthcare.

Weekend Course Details

MPP students will attend live, face-to-face online classes via Zoom across all time zones, on a Saturday excluding holiday weekends, for 90 minutes per class session during the Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer terms.

  • On occasion, a Sunday afternoon class session and/or meeting may occur. These dates will be shared well in advance.
  • Students will meet via Zoom with MPP faculty and classmates who are located in different parts of the world.
  • Our world-class faculty (Practicing Physicians, Medical School Professors, and Medical Professionals) will inform, inspire, and challenge students as they prepare for a future career in medicine and healthcare.
    • MPP faculty facilitate lectures, discussions, hands-on clinical skills, and highly collaborative small group discussions in a live online format.
  • Students will learn about the different types of medical doctors that specialize in a specific medical practice [such as Pediatrics, Dermatology, Neurology, and Internal Medicine], along with a variety of common medical problems that are treated and managed by the medical doctor they are learning about each week.
  • Each term students can expect to learn the following:
    • Different systems of the body.
    • Common medical problems associated with the system of the body that are treated and managed by the medical doctor(s) you will learn about each term.
    • Clinical skills labs/experiences to help students develop the clinical skills related to direct patient care.

Face-to-Face On-Campus Classes once per term on Saturdays, four in total per year.

Four in-person sessions per year are held on a university campus where students participate in medical school tours, site visits to hospitals and/or clinics, university campus tours, and fun group activities with students and staff.

On-Campus Class Details

  • One-day intensive class sessions are delivered in-person on a university campus once per term on a Saturday, four in total per year. Students will not meet during holiday weekends.
  • MPP students will travel to and attend “one” on-campus intensive class session with their cohort “each term” at a designated campus location.
  • Students will be able to participate in “in-person” group activities, university campus tours, medical school tours, site visits to hospitals and/or clinics, and fun activities with students and staff.
  • MPP students are responsible for bringing their own lunch and snacks, and a water bottle to stay hydrated.
  • Students can expect to be on-campus for about 3-7 hours. Pre-arrival and departure information along with a detailed itinerary or program schedule will be provided to students and families.
  • In-person class sessions are contingent on favorable public health conditions and a minimum number of participants.
  • MPP students are not required to travel to the campus to participate in-person. They can participate in the on-campus class session at home virtually via Zoom.
  • MPP students are not required to attend the class session at the campus location that they are enrolled in each term. If space is available, students may request to join a class session at another MPP campus location.
  • Students will have the opportunity to meet fellow classmates and university professors.
  • On-campus session dates will be provided to MPP students and their families.

Fully Asynchronous Course Details

  • All classes will be recorded and uploaded in GoogleClassroom.
  • Students who are unable to attend one of the live, face-to-face online classes on the scheduled date/time can attend class when they are able to do so via GoogleClassroom.
  • Students will also have access to download class assignments, handouts, and any materials discussed during the class.
