The ‘So You Want to be a Medical Doctor?’ Virtual Student Conference is an early outreach medical physician pipeline program that is exclusively offered to the Girl Scouts on Saturday, October 22nd, 2022 via Zoom. The program is for 4th-12th grade Girl Scout students, in all communities across the globe, who might not have considered a career as a medical physician or are interested in pursuing a career in medicine or healthcare.

Event Purpose:

The initiative was established to support the goal of the MPP Academy: To attract thousands of students across the globe, from diverse backgrounds, to increase their interest in pursuing a career as a medical doctor.
We are committed to building a diverse pipeline of future medical doctors, as early as 4th grade, that is more representative of the U.S. population.

Eligibility:

The program targets elementary (4th – 6th) and secondary Girl Scout students (7th -12th), from all communities across the United States and globally, who might not have considered a career as a medical physician or are interested in pursuing a career in medicine or healthcare.

The conference is comprised of the following activities:

Students will be exposed to the techniques of doctors and other medical professionals during our physician led clinical simulation discussing the topic of diabetes.

Pre-College Anatomy & Physiology Seminar

10:00am - 10:50am

Students will participate in an engaging pre-college anatomy and physiology seminar taught by physicians and university professors from top medical schools. This seminar will introduce students to the systems of the body related to diabetes where they will learn interesting ways the human body works. Moreover, students will explore different types of doctors, the branch of medical practice they focus on and how these specialities are connected to the systems of the human body.

Medical School Panel Discussion | Q&A Session: Preparing for Pre-Medical University Coursework & Medical School

Participants will hear firsthand from medical school students, practicing medical physicians and scientists, and medical school faculty and leaders about their personal journey to medicine and why they chose to pursue a career in medicine. Participants will learn how they can begin preparing now as an elementary and secondary student for future pre-med university coursework and medical school.

Important Information for School-Wide Events Only

  • Login details will be provided via email to registered schools.
  • Students will not be allowed to log into the Zoom conference directly with their personal or assigned school laptop or iPad.
  • Only Teachers, Counselors, and other school staff will be permitted to log into the Zoom conference.
  • We suggest that teachers, counselors, and school staff keep students in their assigned classroom during the conference, which could be a students first, second or third period class, homeroom, or advisory class period.

  • Fees are waived for all Girl Scout students, parents and families.
