Hands-On, Physician Led Clinical Skills & Experiences

Assessment of Vitals Signs: Temperature, HR, RR, BP, Pulse Ox

  • Vitals signs provide the physician with crucial information regarding the hydration status, pain, hemodynamic balance, and body’s stress response.
  • Learning to quickly assess vital signs is an important skill to have early in medical school.

Administering Intramuscular and IV Injection Technique

  • Students will learn how to do intramuscular and IV injection technique.

Sterile Gown Technique and Use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

Donning/Doffing PPE and Transmission Precautions

  • Students will learn how to “don” and “doff” (put on and take off) personal protective equipment (PPE), along with the different types of isolation and transmission precautions (such as standard/universal, contact, droplet, airborne, and protective)

Suturing Techniques

  • Students will learn how to do the most popular surgical suture, the continuous running suture.

Casting and Splinting Technique

  • Students will learn the fundamentals of casting and splinting, and will be able to cast themselves using

Six Cardinal Motions of the 3 Primary Extraocular Muscles

  • Students will learn how to guide their patient through six cardinal motions to test extraocular muscle function.

Identification of Heart Sounds and Murmurs

  • Students will learn to identify the rate and rhythm of a normal heart using stethoscopes.

Wound Cleaning and Laceration Repair

  • Students will learn how to effectively clean a new wound, and will apply laceration techniques including dermabond and staples.

Standardized Patient Care Encounter

  • Students will learn how to communicate with a patient as a healthcare provider during an office visit.

First Aid & CPR

  • Students will learn the first responder skills necessary to act in emergency situations.
  • They will partake in interactive scenarios, peer-to-peer practice, and hands-on skill practice taught by current medical professionals.

AED & BLS

  • Students will learn Basic Life Support skills through a scenario-based approach, as well as how to utilize an Automated External Defibrillator in cases of cardiac emergency.
  • These courses will combine the technical skills in a medical context to assist students in becoming stronger first responders.

Medical Simulations

  • Medical simulation offers the flexibility and accessibility for unique learning opportunities.
  • Students will observe and learn how doctors of various specialties care for their patients.
