Medical Physician Preparation Academy

We are an early outreach "pre-med and medical/health professional school readiness" program, committed to preparing the next generation of medical doctors (MD's | DO's), health professionals (i.e., physician assistants, nurses, dentists) and scientists for the physician and healthcare workforce.

OVERVIEW

The Medical Physician Preparation (MPP) Academy elementary school program is a hybrid, year-round, college and career readiness and medical school preparation pipeline certificate program. Our online/on-campus early outreach pipeline program targets high achieving 4th and 5th grade students from all backgrounds, including students underrepresented in medicine, who might not have considered a career as a medical physician or have already committed to pursuing a career in medicine. Our program is designed to attract, recruit, and nurture a diverse pipeline of future medical students who are academically and mentally prepared with social-emotional skills and resilience to:

  • Successfully complete pre-medical college coursework
  • Enter and complete medical school
  • Complete residency requirements to become licensed to practice medicine in a medical specialty that provides a sense of purpose and meaning to their lives.

Our program prepares the next generation of physician leaders to impact the healthcare of our communities. The program is delivered in a hybrid, online/on-campus format through three integrated components:

"Pre, Pre-Med" Academic Year Program

(Hybrid: Online/On-Campus)

In addition, students meet in-person on a university campus, once a month on Saturdays. Students will not meet during holidays.

Additionally, students participate in a variety of academic and career preparation experiences throughout the year, in collaboration with practicing physicians and medical scientists, leading medical schools, and healthcare institutions throughout the nation.

'So You Want to be a Medical Doctor?' Virtual Student Conference

(Online via Zoom)

The ‘So You Want to be a Medical Doctor?’ Virtual Student Conference is a free, national early outreach medical physician pipeline program offered to schools throughout the year via Zoom. In addition to the possibility of attending the virtual student conference with their school, MPP Academy students will attend an exclusive conference in the Fall, Spring and Summer. Participation in the student conference provides students with the opportunity to network with other students across the United States and Canada. The program is facilitated by medical school students, practicing medical physicians and scientists, and medical school faculty and leaders.

The initiative was established to support the goal of the MPP Academy: To attract and build a diverse pipeline of future medical doctors, as early as 4th grade, to the physician workforce.

The conference is comprised of three activities:

  • Clinical Simulation Experience
  • Pre-College Human Anatomy & Physiology Seminar
  • Medical School Panel Discussion, Q&A Session: Preparing for Pre-Medical University Coursework & Medical School

MPP has earned ACMSPP Accreditation.

MPP Academy is an accredited member of the Accreditation Council for K-12 Medical School Preparation Pipeline Programs (ACMSPP). The Accreditation Council is an independent physician-led, not-for-profit organization that sets and monitors the core competencies and educational standards essential in preparing future medical students to thrive in pre-medical undergraduate study, medical school and beyond.

When a medical school preparation pipeline program such as the MPP Academy holds ACMSPP accreditation, it means that ACMSPP recognizes that our program meets a set of designated standards and can be trusted to deliver quality "pre, pre-med"education and training to elementary and secondary students across the world.

ACMSPP is also the largest accrediting agency, accrediting medical school preparation pipeline programs throughout the United States, its territories, and internationally.

PROGRAM BENEFITS

Student Learning Objectives

Prepare Early to Become a Competitive Applicant for Medical School

Our program empowers students with the mindsets and tools, resources and support, and core competencies that a competitive applicant should possess before entering medical school.

Year-Round Academic Preparation for Pre-Med University Coursework

  • Students are provided with the academic preparation necessary to ensure they are prepared to complete college-level pre-med coursework to meet medical school admission requirements.
  • Substantive academic instruction in areas specific to the knowledge, skills, and abilities of students entering medical school are provided, with the intent to prepare students to acquire the 15 core competencies that a competitive applicant should possess before entering medical school, as defined by the Association of American Medical Colleges.
  • Pre-medical preparation will increase completion in pre-med math and science gateway college courses with grades that allow students to be more competitive for admission to medical school.
  • Students learn through a systems-based curriculum aligned with clinical experiences.

Hands-On, Physician-Led Pre-Med Clinical Experience & Simulation Activities

  • Hands-on clinical experience and simulations developed and taught by medical scientists and practicing physicians.
  • Simulation activities range from the basics of interacting with patients, checking vitals, providing wound care, making incisions, administering injections, to suturing.

Social-Emotional Skills & Resiliency Training

  • Social-emotional skills training, with an emphasis on resilience, is included in the MPP curriculum because of its affirmative impacts on empowering students with the mindsets and tools to break through their academic and non-academic barriers, to maintain motivation, and ultimately, to achieve their future career goal of becoming a medical physician.

Career Exploration & Planning Guidebook: Navigating the Path to Medical School

  • Students will receive a comprehensive textbook (written exclusively for MPP Academy participants) that empowers them with the mindsets, tools, and resources to navigate the career exploration and planning process.
