About MPP Academy:

MPP stands for the Medical Physician Preparation Academy. MPP helps prepare 4th grade through college students, who are interested in exploring or pursuing a career in medicine and healthcare.

We are a year-round early outreach “pre-med and medical/health professional school readiness” program, committed to preparing the next generation of medical doctors (MD’s | DO’s), health professionals (i.e., Physician Assistants, Nurses, Dentists, EMTs/Paramedics) and scientists for the physician and healthcare workforce.

We are a unique program that prepares students academically and mentally for entry into medical school (MD, DO) or health professional schools (i.e., Nursing, Physician Assistant, Optometry, Pharmacy).

Our year-round program is delivered through two components, AYP and SIP. Our AYP or Academic Year Program takes place weekly during four ten week terms with online classes for 2-3 hours per week via Zoom on Saturdays or Sundays. Classes are taught by practicing physicians, medical professionals, and medical school/university professors with one in-person on-campus class session per term at a university. Students also participate in our 1 or 2 week SIP or Summer Intensive Program on a university campus as a residential or commuter student.

The overall objective of our medical or health professional school readiness curriculum at MPP is to help students build a strong foundation for their medical career and instill the knowledge, skills, behaviors, and attitudes that will lead to their becoming compassionate and patient-centered physicians and medical professionals.

Program Curriculum

Our medical sciences curriculum introduces students to the organs and systems of the body along with common medical conditions, diseases, and illnesses (symptoms, causes, and clinical treatments). In addition, students will be exposed to a variety of clinical skills labs each term throughout the entire year. The program leverages both simulated patients and real-world examples.

Hands-On Clinical Skills Training Labs & Rotations (mppacademy.org/clinical-skills)

In each medical science course at MPP, we integrate our medical science foundation curriculum with hands-on clinical skills training (techniques and diagnostics) to expose MPP students to a variety of clinical skills that are commonly performed in patient care scenarios from different medical specialties and careers in medicine.

Additionally, MPP students will discover different types of doctors and medical professionals (i.e., Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, EMT/Paramedic, etc.) while practicing clinical skills.

  • Students learn how to apply their medical sciences knowledge to patient care.
  • Students practice patient care by interviewing, diagnosing, examining, and treating patients as a medical or healthcare professional (i.e., Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, EMT/Paramedic, etc.).
  • Students work with their learning/medical team of peers to gain experience diagnosing and formulating treatment plans for their simulated patients during the clinical skills training courses offered at MPP.

Lectures throughout the program are complemented by case studies, small group discussions, and knowledge assessment through comprehensive basic science subject exams. Small class sizes offer students one-on-one attention from our experienced, enthusiastic professors. Tutoring, mentoring and one-on-one guidance are all available.

Students will learn the science of medicine:

  • Master critical thinking and complex problem-solving,
  • Build diagnosis as well as detective skills, and
  • Interact with patients during clinical skills lab courses.

Students will also train to become active learners, work in teams or small groups, and learn to solve medical problems through active inquiry and clinical case studies, under faculty direction. To learn more about MPP, visit www.mppacademy.org.
