Medical Physician Preparation (MPP) Academy

A Division of the NAPCA Foundation

We are committed to building a diverse pipeline of future medical doctors, as early as 4th grade, that is more representative of the U.S. population.

OVERVIEW

The Medical Physician Preparation (MPP) Academy Undergraduate Program is a hybrid, year-round, medical school preparation pipeline certificate program. Our online/on-campus pipeline program targets college freshman, sophomores, and juniors from all backgrounds, including students underrepresented in medicine, who might not have considered a career as a medical physician or have already committed to pursuing a career in medicine. Our program is designed to attract, recruit, and nurture a diverse pipeline of future medical students who are academically and mentally prepared with social-emotional skills and resilience to:

  • Successfully complete pre-medical college coursework
  • Enter and complete medical school
  • Complete residency requirements to become licensed to practice medicine in a medical specialty that provides a sense of purpose and meaning to their lives.

Our program prepares the next generation of physician leaders to impact the healthcare of our communities. The program is delivered in a hybrid, online/on-campus format through three integrated components:

"Pre, Pre-Med" Academic Year Program

(Hybrid: Online/On-Campus)

During the academic year, students attend live online classes face-to-face with faculty and other program students via Zoom, for 2-3 hours per week, typically on the weekend, for 35 weeks. In addition, students meet in-person on a university campus, once a month on Saturdays. Students will not meet during holidays.

Additionally, students participate in a variety of academic and career preparation experiences throughout the year, in collaboration with practicing physicians and medical scientists, leading medical schools, and healthcare institutions throughout the nation.

APPLY NOW: We are accepting applications from high achieving students who will be enrolled as a college freshman, sophomore, or junior in Fall 2023.

"Pre, Pre-Med" Summer Intensive Program

(On-Campus | Fully Online)

Students commute to the program daily or live in the dorms on a university campus, spend 8-10 hours a day learning and experiencing a first-hand account of the first year of medical school. Participants take pre-med foundational courses and a variety of college and career readiness workshops. The hybrid learning experience of this program allows you to choose between attending summer intensive class sessions in person or fully online.

Enrollment Options: Students enroll in the 4 week summer intensive as a:

  • Commuter student (8:00am – 5:00pm)
  • Residential student (Live on campus)

'So You Want to be a Medical Doctor?' Virtual Youth Conference

(Online via Zoom)

The ‘So You Want to be a Medical Doctor?’ Virtual Youth Conference is a free, national early outreach medical physician pipeline program offered to schools throughout the year via Zoom. In addition to the possibility of attending the virtual youth conference with their school, MPP Academy students will attend an exclusive conference in the Fall, Spring and Summer. Participation in the youth conference provides students with the opportunity to network with other students across the United States and Canada. The program is facilitated by medical school students, practicing medical physicians and scientists, and medical school faculty and leaders.

The initiative was established to support the goal of the MPP Academy: To attract and build a diverse pipeline of future medical doctors, as early as 4th grade, to the physician workforce.

The conference is comprised of three activities:

  • Clinical Simulation Experience
  • Pre-College Human Anatomy & Physiology Seminar
  • Medical School Panel Discussion, Q&A Session: Preparing for Pre-Medical University Coursework & Medical School

Students will attend a 1 week on-campus MPP Academy summer intensive program at a well-respected University/medical school outside of the U.S. This study abroad trip will raise global awareness through students experiencing first-hand what it’s like to practice medicine internationally.

Additionally, students will learn about the social, economical, and environmental factors that affect the health of patients and populations in a healthcare system outside of the USA, with a particular focus on understanding the health inequities that exist between patient populations.

Due to COVID-19, the international experience trip has moved online. For more information, please inquire with the MPP Academy office.
